From 6 to 13 September 2025, more than 700 delegates from over 100 countries gathered in Kandy, Sri Lanka, for the 3rd Nyéléni Global Forum for Food Sovereignty. Peasants, Indigenous Peoples, pastoralists, fishers, feminist movements, youth, workers, and activists came together to renew the global struggle for justice, dignity, and life — giving birth to the Kandy Declaration: A Collective Roadmap for Systemic Transformation. This declaration calls on movements everywhere to act in unity, defend the commons, and transform global governance so that it serves people, not profit.

RIPESS at Nyéléni 2025: Seeds of Solidarity for Food Sovereignty
A delegation of more than 20 representatives from all RIPESS regions took part in the Forum, bringing the voice and practices of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) to the global movement for food sovereignty.
The RIPESS delegation shared concrete experiences that show how SSE contributes to transforming food systems — from local markets and community seed networks, to collective economies led by women, peasants, and Indigenous peoples.
It was a week of dialogue, collaboration, and solidarity, where grassroots movements and communities from around the world met to build alliances for systemic change. Together, we reaffirmed that the Economy of Solidarity is a living alternative to the extractivist and corporate model that drives inequality and ecological destruction.
A Common Political Compass
The Kandy Declaration is more than a statement — it is a collective political compass for movements around the world.
It denounces the systems of capitalism, patriarchy, and colonialism that perpetuate hunger, war, and environmental collapse, and calls for the transformation of global governance to serve people and the planet — not profit.
Born from collective wisdom and multilingual solidarity, the Declaration lights the path toward a just, feminist, sustainable and caring world — one that the Social and Solidarity Economy continues to nurture every day.
