RIPESS reaffirms the value of multilateral coordination and institutional capacity in advancing the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) within the United Nations system and beyond. Over the years, the United Nations Inter‑Agency Task Force on the Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE) has provided an important space for cooperation, technical exchange, and dialogue among UN agencies, governments, and civil society actors. This work has helped sustain the momentum generated by the ILO Resolution on decent work and the SSE (2022) and by the UN General Assembly resolutions on promoting the SSE for sustainable development ( (A/RES/77/281 in 2023 and A/RES/79/213 in 2024).
The SSE has also been integrated into recent multilateral frameworks, including the “Sevilla Commitment“, outcome of the International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) and thepolitical declaration of the World Social Summit 2025. This reflects its growing relevance as a pathway toward inclusive and sustainable development.
Why continuity in this work matters
As observers of the UNTFSSE and members of its Technical Working Group on Access to Finance and Support for SSE Entities, RIPESS recognises that continuity in inter‑agency coordination is essential for advancing the implementation of existing commitments. These structures have been key to “coordinating multistakeholder initiatives with Member States” and to “ensuring meaningful socio‑economic transformation toward sustainable development.”
At a time when many countries are seeking more inclusive, sustainable, and employment‑rich development pathways, maintaining strong capacities for coordination, technical exchange, and stakeholder dialogue is crucial for ensuring that the SSE can continue contributing effectively.
The SSE offers systemic responses to today’s challenges: it places people, workers, and the planet at the centre of economic life. For this transformative vision to advance, it is important to maintain stable multilateral spaces for cooperation that help translate existing mandates into concrete policies.
A call to strengthen cooperation and continuity
RIPESS encourages governments, international organisations, and social actors to continue supporting the institutional capacity and inter‑agency coordination that enable practical, inclusive, and cooperative progress on the SSE.
This is a timely moment to reinforce technical collaboration, knowledge sharing, and stakeholder engagement to ensure the effective and inclusive implementation of existing SSE‑related commitments.
