Youth and the Social Solidarity Economy for Inclusive and Sustainable Development
On December 24 and 25, 2025, Morocco will host the launch workshop of the Jeunes et Économie Sociale et Solidaire HUB (JeunESS Morocco), a key initiative aimed at strengthening youth-led Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) dynamics in the country.
A favorable context, yet major challenges
Recognized by the United Nations as a strategic lever for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Social and Solidarity Economy plays a fundamental role in territorial development, social inclusion and the creation of decent jobs. In Morocco, the SSE is supported by a dynamic network of cooperatives, productive associations and collective initiatives, particularly active in rural areas and vulnerable territories.
However, Moroccan youth continue to face significant challenges: high unemployment, job insecurity and limited access to economic opportunities, especially for women and in regions far from major urban centers. In this context, the SSE emerges as a concrete and transformative alternative, capable of generating sustainable employment, strengthening social cohesion and fostering social innovation at the territorial level.
The JeunESS Morocco HUB: a space for collective action
The JeunESS Morocco HUB is part of the international project
“Regionalization through an intersectional approach to the implementation of the UN resolution on the promotion of the SSE for sustainable development”, funded by the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD) and implemented by RIPESS, in collaboration with its member networks.
In Morocco, the process is led by REMESS (Moroccan Network of the Social and Solidarity Economy), a founding member of RAESS.
The HUB aims to:
- Mobilize and support young people in the creation and consolidation of SSE initiatives
- Promote socio-economic inclusion through decent and sustainable jobs
- Strengthen democratic governance and organizational capacities
- Foster social innovation and collective entrepreneurship
- Promote strategic partnerships among public, private and civil society actors
A participatory and multi-stakeholder workshop
The launch workshop will bring together approximately 50 participants, ensuring gender parity, including young people aged 18 to 40, social entrepreneurs, members of cooperatives and associations, as well as institutional representatives and strategic partners.
Through a participatory methodology, the workshop will combine presentations, exchanges, group work and co-creation spaces to lay the organizational and strategic foundations of the HUB and build a shared vision of the role of youth in the SSE in Morocco.
