RIPESS participates in two side events at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, reaffirming the key role of the Social and Solidarity Economy in the 2030 Agenda.

From 4 to 6 November 2025, the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2) takes place in Doha (Qatar), a key international space to advance transformative social policies aimed at eradicating poverty, promoting decent work, and fostering social inclusion. The summit brings together government leaders, UN agencies, international organizations, and civil society actors to renew global commitments to social development, inclusion, and poverty eradication.

RIPESS Intercontinental, represented by its Executive Secretary, Sandra Moreno Cadena, actively participates in two high-level side events, highlighting the role of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) as a vital driver for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and building a more equitable and sustainable future.

One of the most significant messages of the Doha Political Declaration recognizes that:

“The social and solidarity economy can play a key role in eradicating poverty, promoting social inclusion and catalysing social transformation, thus helping to achieve the goal of leaving no one behind and fulfilling the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.”

RIPESS welcomes this recognition as an essential step toward strengthening public policies and international alliances that promote an economic transformation centered on people and the planet, grounded in solidarity, cooperation, and sustainability.

This session addresses a fundamental challenge: how to assess whether economic actors are truly contributing to poverty eradication, decent work, and social inclusion.

It will present innovative methodologies and threshold-based indicators that go beyond conventional ESG frameworks. These tools evaluate sustainability performance based on scientifically and socially defined limits, such as planetary boundaries, living wages, and gender equality.

Among them is the Sustainable Development Performance Indicators (SDPI), developed by UNRISD. SDPI offers a context-based normative framework to assess real sustainability outcomes. The session will also explore complementary tools tailored to SSE organizations and other social-purpose enterprises.

Speakers:

  • Ilcheong Yi – UNRISD (Switzerland) – Moderator
  • Iñigo Albizuri Landazabal – Mondragon Corporation / ASETT (Spain)
  • Ibon Zugasti – Prospektiker (Spain)
  • Sandra Moreno – RIPESS Intercontinental (Colombia)

This session will bring together representatives from governments, multilateral organizations, and international networks.

Sandra Moreno will speak alongside representatives from the OECD, ILO/UNTFSSE, and the governments of France, Colombia, Spain, and Senegal, as well as the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA).

She will highlight:

  • The transformative role of SSE actors in local and global public policies
  • Their contribution to implementing the SDGs
  • The importance of strengthening SSE ecosystems through international cooperation and knowledge exchange

Speakers:

  • Anousheh Karvar – France / ILO – Moderator
  • Marie-José L. Tayah – ILO / UNTFSSE
  • Mauricio Rodríguez Amaya – Social Prosperity Department, Colombia
  • Sergio Colina Martín – Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spain
  • Alioune Dione – Minister for SSE and Microfinance, Senegal
  • Sandra Moreno Cadena – RIPESS Intercontinental
  • Jereon Douglas – International Co-operative Alliance

RIPESS’s participation in this important forum reaffirms its mission to promote the Social and Solidarity Economy as a fundamental tool to eradicate poverty, build social inclusion, and foster global sustainability.
