We are pleased to announce that the UN Interagency Taskforce on Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE) agreed on August 31th to formally recognize an Advisory Group (AG) of SSE Observer organisations.

As of today, it includes 5 organizations of the 10 previously mandated organisations:

As specified in the definition of SSE adopted by the UNTFSSE, the UNTFSSE SSE Observers are organisations that promote Social and Solidarity Economy and bring much knowledge, inputs, and suggestions to the different official publications, as well as to the UNTFSSE orientation, strategy, organisation and work plan.

The Advisory group was initiated by RIPESS and aims to encourage these five organizations to make a deeper commitment to the UNTFSSE.

The main purpose of the Advisory Group is to act collectively to enhance the work of the UNTFSSE as set out when it was created in 2013, and to ensure that the orientation of the TFSSE remains aligned with the Taskforce definition. It will, for example, support the Taskforce in interacting with leading/reference SSE organizations, by using the members’ knowledge of the field and its stakeholders.

The AG members thus commit to contributing to and promoting the work of the Taskforce as a key factor in realizing the 2030 Agenda, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the New Urban Agenda, and the Paris Agreement, through Social and Solidarity Economy.

The Advisory group will also advise and collaborate with the UNTFSSE on:

  • Priorities and workplans
  • Mutual governance issues
  • Organization of meetings
  • Specific activities such as seminars, publications and participation in different events

RIPESS has agreed to assume the important responsibility of spokesperson of the Advisory Group and work closely with the Taskforce to achieve ever greater recognition and effective implementation of SSE.
