The Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) movement celebrates an unprecedented institutional achievement in the Ibero‑American region. The 22 member states of the Ibero‑American Community have officially approved the Ibero‑American Commitment to the Social and Solidarity Economy (2026–2030), a strategic roadmap that will guide public policies for the sector over the next four years.
The agreement was formally ratified in Avilés (Spain) under the coordination of the Ibero‑American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and with strong support from the Spanish Ministry of Labour and Social Economy. This document reflects a unified political will to place the SSE at the centre of economic and social development agendas on both sides of the Atlantic.

Why is this a key milestone for the SSE?
For global networks such as the Intercontinental Network for the Promotion of the Social and Solidarity Economy (RIPESS), this international commitment represents a historic recognition of grassroots work and opens new avenues for advocacy. The main pillars of the agreement include:
- Institutionalisation of the sector — Recognition of the SSE as an essential driver for reducing inequality, generating decent work and ensuring a just transition.
- Regulatory development — Commitment from governments to design, update and implement national laws that protect, finance and strengthen social economy initiatives.
- Transatlantic cooperation — Creation of spaces for knowledge exchange and good practices among countries in Latin America, the Caribbean and the Iberian Peninsula.
