As part of the ACCD–RIPESS project supporting the implementation of the United Nations resolution on the promotion of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) for sustainable development, a local workshop on the identification and characterization of food system dynamics in the SSE will be held in Taounate Province, on 24 and 25 December, in Morocco.
This workshop adopts a territorial, inclusive and participatory approach aimed at strengthening local food systems, while highlighting the central role of agri-food cooperatives and SSE initiatives led by women and young people.
A territory with strong potential facing major challenges
Taounate Province has significant agricultural and agri-food potential, rooted in family farming, local products and traditional know-how. Women’s cooperatives and youth-led initiatives play a key role in the production, processing and marketing of local food products.
However, these dynamics face several structural challenges, including vulnerability to climate change, degradation of natural resources, limited access to markets and financing, weak recognition of women’s and youth’s work, and situations of food and nutrition insecurity, particularly affecting rural households.
Workshop objectives
The workshop aims to:
- Identify and characterize local food system dynamics driven by SSE organizations in Taounate
- Analyze their socio-economic, social and nutritional impacts
- Highlight constraints and opportunities specific to women and young people
- Promote local knowledge and social innovations
- Develop strategic recommendations to strengthen territorial food sovereignty and security
The outcomes will contribute to local and national reflections and reinforce the role of the SSE as a lever for resilience, empowerment and sustainable development.
A participatory and multi-stakeholder approach
The workshop will be based on a participatory methodology combining field exchanges, focus groups, dialogue with institutional stakeholders, participatory mapping of local initiatives, and qualitative and quantitative analyses of food system dynamics.
It will primarily bring together women and young people involved in agri-food activities within SSE organizations, as well as key actors from local value chains.
