More than 1.15 million people—with 355 lives lost, hundreds injured, and 370 missing—have been affected across the country’s 25 districts. Thousands of families remain without shelter, food, basic hygiene, or safe spaces for children.

In this critical context, RIPESS expresses its support and solidarity to member organisation LEADS, which, with more than 40 years of experience in humanitarian response, is currently implementing an emergency plan in coordination with local authorities and humanitarian agencies.

LEADS has launched an urgent call for international solidarity. Thousands of families need immediate support: mothers sheltering their children under damaged roofs, elders sleeping on soaked mats, and whole communities waiting for help to arrive.

Your donations provide essential items such as:

  • Nutritious dry rations
  • Sanitary kits for women
  • Hygiene materials and protective gear

LEADS’ emergency project focuses on supporting the most vulnerable families in the most affected districts: Gampaha, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Killinochchi, Trincomalee, Jaffna and Badulla.

Ongoing actions include:

  • Distribution of essential items, including hygiene kits, disinfectant kits, mosquito nets, and dry rations
  • Support for families returning home, including well cleaning, debris removal, and provision of non-food items
  • Psychosocial support for children, including recreational packs
  • Rapid needs assessments, particularly for children and vulnerable households
  • Active humanitarian coordination, taking part in response platforms led by the UN and government authorities

LEADS’ residential counselling centres in Killinochchi, Badulla and Colombo have also been affected. Children and staff have been relocated to safe facilities under the supervision of Probation Department officers.

LEADS has opened a dedicated account for donations. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference.
